
Christine M. Dehnert-Fernald, CPA

Christine became a partner with the firm in 1990 and divides her time between the Mathews and Irvington offices. She provides tax and accounting services for businesses and individuals.
In 1986 Christine joined this firm upon graduating from Christopher Newport University with a B.S. in Accounting. She is a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Christine is a life-time resident of Mathews and active member of Church of Francis DeSales. She enjoys her free time with her grown children and grandchildren, all of whom reside close by, and loves to travel.

C. Dwight Clarke, CPA

Dwight is a partner in the firm and has more than 28 years of experience in public accounting. He works with partnerships, corporations and individual tax and financial issues. Dwight works closely with business owners and individuals implementing effective tax and financial strategies. He also provides tax services for not-for-profit organizations, estates and trusts.
Born and raised in Poquoson, Virginia, Dwight received a B.S. degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech in 1985. He and his wife, Cindy, and three children, William, Rachel and Harris, live in White Stone and enjoy travel, golf and fishing. Dwight is a member and former president of the Kilmarnock-Irvington-White Stone Rotary Club and he is a Paul Harris Fellow. He is currently the treasurer for The Tidewater Foundation and the Northern Neck Rotary Foundation.

Craig H. Giese, CPA

A native of Lancaster County, Craig graduated in 1987 from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Accounting. He joined this firm as an associate in November of 1993. Craig provides tax and accounting services to businesses and individuals with a concentration on farmers.
Besides working part-time with the firm, Craig operates a 650-acre farm in the Lancaster Courthouse area. Craig has served as state chairman of the Virginia Farm Bureau Young Farmers. He has also served as president of the Northumberland/Lancaster Farm Bureau and formerly chairman, currently treasurer of the Northern Neck Farm Museum.
He and his wife, Michelle, reside in Lively with their daughter, Madison. Craig also is an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

John R. Charbeneau, CPA

John joined the firm in January, 1997, and is an associate. He provides a variety of tax services including tax preparation for businesses, individuals, estates, trusts and non-profit organizations plus compilation of financial statements. John spends a significant portion of his time assisting clients with planning and administering their trusts and estates and preparing their trust and estate tax returns. Graduating in 1987 from George Mason University, John began his accounting career in 1989 after having worked as a licensed stockbroker. John is a volunteer tutor with the Lancaster Primary School Tea for Two program and is also an active volunteer with the YMCA. He and his wife, Janis, reside in Middlesex County. His outside interests include playing on a local soccer team, kayaking and sailboat racing.

Courtney A. Myers, CPA

Courtney joined the firm in September of 2010 and provides a variety of tax and accounting services to a number of individual and business clients. Courtney is eager to assist with any tax or financial need and deeply values the relationships she has developed with many of her clients over the years.
Courtney graduated from York College of Pennsylvania (go Spartans!) with a B.S. degree in Accounting. Her intro into the professional world began as a Staff Accountant with Beard Miller Company in York, PA (now part of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP) where she obtained her CPA license as well as valuable tax and accounting experience. Courtney and her husband Nate’s biggest accomplishments are their twins, daughter Brooklyn and son Finnegan, and together they enjoy boating, camping, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Gale L. Gibson, CPA

Gale joined Dehnert, Clarke & Co. in September, 2019 after graduating from Old Dominion University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. She provides tax and accounting services to individual and business clients. Gale has over twenty-five years of accounting experience, having worked as a legal assistant to an attorney/CPA and as an accountant for a small business. She enjoys working with people in the local community and addressing each client’s specific needs.
Gale grew up in Central Virginia, always surrounded by mountains, but longing to live near the water. She and her husband, Paul, happily relocated to Mathews County seven years ago and live within view of the beautiful Mobjack Bay. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, including two adult children and three grandchildren, as well as traveling and fishing. Gale is an active member of Kingston Episcopal Parish in Mathews.

Rachel Harding

Rachel joined Dehnert, Clarke & Co. full-time in 2007 after having interned with the firm for several years. She received her bachelor’s degree and a master’s in Accounting and Information Systems from Virginia Tech. Rachel is an accountant with the firm and provides services to a variety of business and individual client accounts. These services include tax return preparation, payroll services and compilation of financial statements.
A native of Lancaster County, Rachel has chosen to return home to pursue her career. She is a member of the Northern Neck Junior Kiwanis and a member of the Lancaster County Community Christmas Project. Rachel resides in the Ottoman area of Lancaster with her sons, Grant and Walker, and daughter, Britton.

Mary Lee Kellum-Abbott

Mary Lee is a native of Lancaster County and began her accounting career with this firm in December of 1977. Prior to her accounting career, she worked as a bookkeeper for several other firms. She prepares quarterly payroll reports, individual income tax returns and annual accountings for estates and trusts.
Mary Lee resides in the Little Bay area of White Stone. She has a daughter, Linda, a son, John Lee, and two grandsons, Ran and Tyler. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, attending Claybrook Baptist Church and spending time with her grandsons. Her favorite past time is spending time at the beach.

Jennifer R. Mann

Jennifer is the firm’s office manager and a native of Northumberland County. One will find Jennifer always eager to help our clients in any way possible. Her duties vary and change as needed. She orders the supplies, handles the accounts receivable and accounts payable, proofs estate and trust accountings, processes payroll, as well as having rapport with numerous clients.
Jennifer resides in Reedville with her husband, Joseph, and three sons, Tyler, Carson and Brennan. She enjoys camping and riding the trails of West Virginia.

Lena B. Dixon

Lena joined the firm full-time in 2004 after working part-time through several tax seasons. She did bookkeeping work for 10 years prior and enjoyed a few years as a stay-at-home mom when her younger daughter was born. Her duties include payroll check writing and quarterly report preparation, general bookkeeping, individual tax return preparation and trust tax return preparation.
Lena resides in Ocran with her husband, Henry, and younger daughter, Skylar. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing the piano, attending her daughter’s sporting events and camping with her family.

Beverly S. Barefoot

Beverly joined the firm in 2009 upon acquisition of Guardian Tax and Business Solutions and works in the Mathews office. She worked in the accounting department of a large corporation for 10 years prior and enjoyed a few years as a stay-at-home mom. Her duties include tax return preparation for individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations. She also prepares financial statements, quarterly payroll reports and offers general bookkeeping services.
Beverly and her husband, Brent, reside in Mathews County with their two children, Blake and Brooke. In her free time she enjoys the beach, reading, riding roller coasters with Blake and listening to Brooke sing and play the piano. They attend Mathews Baptist Church.
Sheila A. Smoot

Sheila joined the firm as the temporary receptionist in 2021 and transitioned to a permanent position shortly afterward. Her duties include payroll processing, preparing quarterly payroll reports, proofing estate and trust accountings and administrative support.
Sheila resides in Heathsville with her husband, Bill. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her three daugthers, attending her grandson's sporting events, reading, crafting and relaxing on the beach.

Brandi D. Kellum

Brandi joined the firm in 2021 as the firms receptionsist. She is a graduate of George Mason University and a native of Lancaster County. One will find Brandi eager to exceed in client care. Her duties include answering the phone, taking care of clients needs, and assembling tax returns, payroll reports and financial statements. Brandi resides in Kilmarnock and enjoys reading, cooking, listening to music, attending festivals, boating, relaxing on the beach and visiting New Orleans.

Nathan D. Jenkins

Nathan joined the firm full time in 2022 after having interned with the firm during his winter break at college. He graduated from Randolph-Macon college with a bachelor's degree in Accounting. He is excited to get started into his career and looking to further his education and complete a master's degree in accounting and sit for the CPA exam.
Nathan is a native of Gwynn’s Island and has been an active member in his community. In his spare time, Nathan does a plethora of activities such as: soccer, hiking, fishing, paddle-boarding, boating, or attending sporting events. He is a very avid Green Bay Packers fan.
