Christine M. Dehnert-Fernald, CPA

Christine became a partner with the firm in 1990 and divides her time between the Mathews and Irvington offices. She provides tax and accounting services for businesses and individuals.

In 1986 Christine joined this firm upon graduating from Christopher Newport University with a B.S. in Accounting. She is a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

A resident of Mathews County, Christine resides with her two younger children, Nichole and Willie. They are active members of Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Christine and her children enjoy traveling and sports.

 

 



C. Dwight Clarke, CPA

Dwight is a partner in the firm and has more than 28 years of experience in public accounting. He works with partnerships, corporations and individual tax and financial issues. Dwight works closely with business owners and individuals implementing effective tax and financial strategies. He also provides tax services for not-for-profit organizations, estates and trusts.

Born and raised in Poquoson, Virginia, Dwight received a B.S. degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech in 1985. He and his wife, Cindy, and three children, William, Rachel and Harris, live in White Stone and enjoy travel, golf and fishing. Dwight is a member and former president of the Kilmarnock-Irvington-White Stone Rotary Club. He has also served as treasurer of the Lancaster Community Library and the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce.

 

 



Craig H. Giese, CPA

A native of Lancaster County, Craig graduated in 1987 from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Accounting. He joined this firm as an associate in November of 1993. Craig provides tax and accounting services to businesses and individuals with a concentration on farmers.

Besides working part-time with the firm, Craig operates a 650-acre farm in the Lancaster Courthouse area. Craig has served as state chairman of the Virginia Farm Bureau Young Farmers. He has also served as president of the Northumberland/Lancaster Farm Bureau and formerly chairman, currently treasurer of the Northern Neck Farm Museum.

He and his wife, Michelle, reside in Lively with their daughter, Madison. Craig also is an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

 

 



Kathryn A. Harris, CPA

Katie, an associate in the firm, provides a variety of tax services for individual and business clients. Her services include tax preparation for businesses, individuals, pension plans and non-profit organizations and compilation of financial statements.

After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1991 with a B.S. in Accounting, Katie spent a few years in the insurance industry and later managed the accounting department at the Tides Inn Resort in Irvington. She began her public accounting career with the firm in 1994.

Katie and her family are active in their local church and she participates in and supports her children's many activities. Katie, her husband and their children reside in rural Virginia, where she enjoys horseback riding, boating and swimming.

 

 



John R. Charbeneau, CPA

John joined the firm in January, 1997, and is an associate. He provides a variety of tax services including tax preparation for businesses, individuals, estates, trusts and non-profit organizations plus compilation of financial statements. John spends a significant portion of his time assisting clients with planning and administering their trusts and estates and preparing their trust and estate tax returns. Graduating in 1987 from George Mason University, John began his accounting career in 1989 after having worked as a licensed stockbroker. John is a volunteer tutor with the Lancaster Primary School Tea for Two program and is also an active volunteer with the YMCA. He and his wife, Janis, reside in Middlesex County at Hartfield. His outside interests include playing on a local soccer team, kayaking and sailboat racing.

 

 



Molly A. Painter, CPA

Molly is an associate with this firm, providing tax and accounting services to individuals and businesses. She also prepares compiled and reviewed financial statements for businesses. Molly joined the firm in January of 2000 and divides her week between the Irvington and Mathews offices.

A graduate of Virginia Tech in 1984 with a degree in Animal Science, Molly also obtained a BS in Accounting in 1999 from Christopher Newport University. She is currently working towards a personal financial planning certification.

Molly and her husband, Gary, reside in Mathews County with their dogs, cats and horses. They are active members of Spring Hill Baptist Church. When time allows, Molly enjoys horseback riding and reading.

 

 



Courtney A. Myers, CPA

Courtney joined the firm in September of 2010 after spending two years working in a small accounting firm across the Rappahannock River in Middlesex County. Courtney provides a variety of tax and accounting services to a number of individual and business clients and is eager to assist with any tax or financial need.

Courtney graduated from York College of Pennsylvania with a B.S. degree in Accounting. Following her graduation, she worked for Beard Miller Company in York, PA, where she obtained her CPA license as well as three years of valuable tax and accounting experience. Following her marriage in the summer of 2008, Courtney and her husband, Nate, relocated to the Northern Neck which they quickly fell in love with. Courtney and Nate live in White Stone with their daughter Brooklyn and son Finnegan and enjoy boating, camping and visiting family and friends.

 

 



Rachel Harding-Griffith

Rachel joined Dehnert, Clarke & Co. full-time in 2007 after having interned with the firm for several years. She received her bachelor’s degree and a master’s in Accounting and Information Systems from Virginia Tech. Rachel is an accountant with the firm and provides services to a variety of business and individual client accounts. These services include tax return preparation, payroll services and compilation of financial statements.

A native of Lancaster County, Rachel has chosen to return home to pursue her career. She is a member of the Northern Neck Junior Kiwanis and a member of the Lancaster County Community Christmas Project. Rachel and her husband, Scott, reside in the Ottoman area of Lancaster with their sons, Grant and Walker, and daughter, Britton.

 

 



Mary Lee Kellum-Abbott

Mary Lee is a native of Lancaster County and began her accounting career with this firm in December of 1977. Prior to her accounting career, she worked as a bookkeeper for several other firms. She prepares quarterly payroll reports, individual income tax returns and annual accountings for estates and trusts.

Mary Lee resides in the Little Bay area of White Stone with her husband, Phillip Abbott. She has a daughter, Linda, a son, John Lee, and two grandsons, Ran and Tyler. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, attending Claybrook Baptist Church and spending time with her grandsons. Her favorite past time is spending time at the beach.

 

 



Catharine B. Moore

Catharine is the firm's office manager. She joined us in September of 1991 after having served as legal assistant to Circuit Court judges for 24 years.

One will find Catharine always eager to help our clients in anyway possible. Her duties vary and change as needed. She orders the supplies, does the billing, pays the bills, keeps up with deadlines, proofs estate and trust accountings as well as having rapport with numerous clients.

Catharine has been active with various civic and charitable organizations over the years. She served as secretary of the Lancaster County Electoral Board for nine years and is a member and officer of the Nettie Lokey Wiley and Charles L. Wiley Foundation. She and her husband, Wade, reside in upper Lancaster County. She has a grown son living in Raleigh, NC.

 

 



Lena B. Dixon

Lena joined the firm full-time in 2004 after working part-time through several tax seasons. She did bookkeeping work for 10 years prior and enjoyed a few years as a stay-at-home mom when her younger daughter was born. Her duties include payroll check writing and quarterly report preparation, general bookkeeping, individual tax return preparation and trust tax return preparation.

Lena resides in Weems with her husband, Henry, and younger daughter, Skylar. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing the piano, attending her daughter’s sporting events and camping with her family

 

 



Beverly S. Barefoot

Beverly joined the firm in 2009 upon acquisition of Guardian Tax and Business Solutions and works in the Mathews office. She worked in the accounting department of a large corporation for 10 years prior and enjoyed a few years as a stay-at-home mom. Her duties include tax return preparation for individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations. She also prepares financial statements, quarterly payroll reports and offers general bookkeeping services.

Beverly and her husband, Brent, reside in Mathews County with their two children, Blake and Brooke. In her free time she enjoys the beach, reading, riding roller coasters with Blake and listening to Brooke sing and play the piano. They attend Mathews Baptist Church.

 

 



Kim Massaro

Kim Massaro began her career with this firm in July of 2011 as Office Assistant/Receptionist. Prior to joining Dehnert, Clarke & Co., she had 18 years of banking experience and further served for two years as front office assistant at Chesapeake Academy. Kim’s daily duties include answering the phones, scheduling appointments, directing client calls, scanning, maintaining client files and processing payroll reports and tax returns.

Kim, a native of New York, moved with her husband to Northern Virginia some years ago. She soon fell in love with this area when starting to visit Northumberland County in 1997. She moved to Reedville in 2006 with her husband, Matt, daughter, Nikki and son, Max.

Kim loves being a mom and taking care of her family. Her other interests include reading, cooking, boating, and, of course, lying on the beach.
